It’s All in The Preparation

PrepareWhat’s Your Next Move?

As 2017 winds down, I think it’s fair to ask, “What’s your next move going into the New Year?”. How often do we find ourselves caught off-guard because we weren’t ready, we didn’t prepare for all the opportunities that could potentially cross our paths?

I certainly know I’ve been guilty of missing a few of those opportunities due to lack of preparation, and let me tell you, I seriously hate it!!  If you’ve been caught off guard due to lack of preparation, then you can relate.  It’s not a good feeling!

Here’s an analogy: if I wake up in the morning, and I don’t make my bed, shower, have my to-do list ready, etc., it really bothers me!  I feel out of rhythm, off my game, and even sometimes unfocused. I believe one of the most important parts of being successful is PREPARATION.  Preparation is like doing homework; we don’t always want to, but we need to!

How to Prepare Yourself for Opportunities

One particular way of how to prepare yourself for opportunities can be as simple as writing down your GOALS for the New Year.  I like to pen them out in three, six, and twelve-month goals to get my head in the right mind frame.  What’s the worst that can happen?  Maybe you set a goal, and you fall a little short but in the grand scheme of things you accomplished far more than you would have, had you not written it down.

Most meaningful, I believe it’s important to take time out for family and those that are close to you and enjoy the moment.  It’s essential to find that balance!  Preparation will also help with work-life balance for health and happiness – know when it’s time to take a break!

  1. Writing down goals serves as a reminder of the promise we made to ourselves and the steps that’s required to accomplish them. This is a long standing tradition with individuals who desire a deeper meaning and purpose in life – and it makes sense! We are now able to gauge our progress, and make any necessary adjustments along the way – to stay the course and complete the journey.

Then, looking back we will see how much further (compared to unwritten goals) we have come and our greatest accomplishments – when committed to the words we wrote on paper (with preparation).

    What’s your GOAL?
